Well its Thursday afternoon and its been raining here all day. The boat's weather station recorded the rainfall just before lunch at over 1.35 inches per hour. It did not last too long at that rate however. My potted hot peppers up on the seawall did welcome the rain I am sure..:) Its been a good day to work on the computer after all.
I received two emails from readers over the past few days asking my advice on how to go about moving aboard a boat. I hope I answered them satisfactorily. I am often asked about this. I always try to give my honest opinion, the pros and cons and why Mary and I did what we did and how we planned it. I always play the devils advocate because this lifestyle is not necessarily for everyone, and I want them to be sure.
But the more I think about it, there is actually very little difference in living on a boat than living in a house. You have maintenance and repairs with both, we have all the modern appliances a house does, we grill out often on the back deck, sleep very comfortably in our stateroom, and get up and go about our day just like anyone else does. But I do not have to pull weeds and cut grass or put with bad neighbors if I don't want to. In fact, we're taking the Patricia Ann out this weekend to get away from everything and everyone. You can't do that with a house can you? But there are some things you must monitor, after all you will be floating.

So those of you that have some apprehension, don't be afraid. If you love the water and boating in particular, I'll guarantee you'll love it. The poll you all (I could have said ya'll but then you would certainly know I am a southern boy) have been taking states that over 50% of you are going to be moving aboard soon. Good for you. Don't be afraid to ask if you have any hesitation about things. I have a new poll below, feel free to answer.
And there's one more thing I wish to speak about. In the Livingaboard.com forums it has been suggested that I offer my help solely because I am a yacht broker and only want you for your money. Its the furthest things from the truth there is. Yes, I do make my money buying and selling boats for people, but I have helped far more people that I have not made a penny from than those I have. If I can help you find and buy your next boat and make some money, well that great. If I answer your questions and never hear from you again, well I hope I helped you in your pursuit of the answers. That's just the way I am.
OK, enough of my rambling.
I sure hope it clears up enough to grill that chicken tonight.
Till next time,
Mike
